The Awardee of the First Paramveer Chakra

Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon is the only Indian Air Force warrior to be decorated with the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest award for gallantry, in recognition of his lone defence of Srinagar Air Base against a PAF air raid during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The award was announced in Jan 1972.His bravery and service to the nation is further Honoured by both India Post as well as Army postal service. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Indian Air Force a first Day cover was released mentioning his service to the nation. A special commemorative stamp was released on the 50th year of Indian Republic.
